The world of fashion is one that I never wish to visit. I wish to live there instead. An outsider’s view is tainted by flashbulbs and glitter. On the inside you can see the industry without its makeup on…

Red, White, and Beautiful

This weekend is fourth of July and I know you will all be looking fabulous. So what is the best part of the fourth? The hot dogs? The sales? The family picnic? The fireworks? How about the one chance a year to rock red, white, and blue without looking stupid. So what will you be wearing? It's a chance for rock that little red dress, where those gorgeous white heels, or take those high waisted navy shorts for a test run. I've taken the liberty of pairing some outfits together on Couturious to give you some inspiration. After all, if you're headed to a big blowout who knows who you'll have to impress...

New Louis Ads

I am totally in love with the Fall 2010 Louis Vuitton ad campaigns!!! The clothes are gorgeous, the models are beautiful, and the set is so ingenious. The photographer wanted to create the idea of a vintage dressing room. I must say, I wish I looked that glamorous when I was getting ready for a night out. I also wish I had a place to where clothes like these. I can't wait to see this in Vogue!

Hey Everyone!

For the Love of Lace

Hey Fashion Fanatics!

Today I wanna talk about...LACE! Whether you're rocking the fingerless lace Madonna gloves or sipping tea in an elegant lace detailed party dress, you know that lace has many uses and can make you feel super flirty and fun at noon or at midnight. I LOVE that lace is back in style. I'm not really into the whole black lace with studs and hooker boots, but I think that lace can soften a rocker look or add texture to a plain tank or dress. Lace details can make or break an outfit. Lace looks great with denim or leather and I love baby pink, cream, and black lace are the most elegant. So this fall when your shopping for a winter wardrobe, think about lace details in tops, dresses, tights, socks, and skirts. I wouldn't pair two lace items together, but you can pair lace pieces with other textures like pleating, sequins, or plaid.

For the Love of....Faux Leather Jackets?

Todays question is the age old question of "tacky or trendy?" I, personally, have no tolerance of overweight, excessively tattooed, leather clad biker chicks. I think that tattoos are tacky and they make beautiful people look cheap. However, I do have a certain level of respect for a well cut leather jacket. I have seen some beautiful leather jackets on the racks at Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and trendy boutiques like She or Three Sisters. I think that a leather jacket in tan or brown does wonders for your skin tone and a black jacket adds a rebel edge to girly ensembles. I have also seen faux leather (I hate the word pleather) that look and feel like the real thing. In these economic times not everyone can afford a 1000 dollar leather jacket, including me. So, is the fake leather jacket acceptable? Is a good leather jacket still a necessary staple for the Fall 2010 wardrobe?
Here are my thoughts on the matter. Fake leather is acceptable if it looks real, feels real, and is affordable. I don't believe you should drop 500 bucks on faux leather when for another hundred you can get the real deal. There is the moral side of the argument too, that a cow had to die for that jacket, but think about that while you eat your fillet mignon. As for this falls fashion, I think that jackets are one article of clothing that stays in style for multiple seasons. So this fall when you want to wear that adorable spaghetti strap dress but it's too chilly, grab that leather (or faux leather) jacket. It adds an edge without being goth or biker. For pale people, grab a chestnut or chocolate brown. Dark skin, be bold and try a tan jacket. If you think you can rock it, try black, but be warned it will wash you out if you very pale.

BTW: The jacket on the right is from She. We used it in our last fashion show and everyone adored it, the leather is so soft!

Pretty Little Liars is absolutely beautiful

ABC Family just came out with a new TV show: Pretty Little Liars. It's based on a book, which I yet to read, but my friends are all in love with the books and the show. The fashion is great, the drama is intoxicating, and I wish I was Aria! So for those of you who haven't read it, here's a link to a free e-book.

An Icon for Us All

Few women are remembered throughout time as beautiful, successful, charming and icon. Grace Kelly, Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, and, my personal favorite, Audrey Hepburn. Most people know Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, a flighty young girl living in New York City. Holly, the star of Breakfast at Tiffany's, was probably Audrey's most famous role. It is the role that I first saw Ms. Hepburn in, and the role that inspired who I am. Imagine a young girl watching as a sleek, slim woman travels through New York City and falls in love with the people, a cat named Cat, and a man that loves her too. After that, Audrey Hepburn became an idol of mine. She turned the little black dress from just another simple frock to a staple featured in the wardrobes of every woman in this country and so many others, but Ms. Hepburn was more than just Holly and she did more than just turn the Little Black Dress into an icon of its own.
Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4th, 1929. She appeared in 29 movies between 1951 and 1989, including Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Funny Face (1957), Roman Holiday (1953), and Sabrina (1954), not to mention My Fair Lady in 1964. Ms. Hepburn starred along side of such actors as Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck and Richard Dreyfuss.
Throughout her life, Audrey Hepburn had various relationships and marriages. She was married to Mel Ferrer from 1954 to 1968, then Andrea Dotti from 1969 to 1982. She two sons, one with each man. Before the birth of her first son she had two miscarriages, and while she was on bed rest her husband brought her the deer, from the movie Green Mansions, to keep as a pet. They names him Pippin, but nicknamed him Ip.
Audrey Hepburn was the favorite actress of American president John F. Kennedy. For his birthday in 1963 she sang him "Happy Birthday, Dear Jack", sadly that was Mr. Kennedy's last birthday.
In the years before her death, Audrey lived with Robert Wolders. They never married, however they considered themselves to be "married, just not formally." She called those years the happiest of her life.
Audrey died of cancer on January 20th, 1993. A day the acting and fashion worlds will mourn forever.

Just a quick history less,

Vintage Cycle

I found the perfect bicycle....well perfect in all regards except the price tag. Personally, I find that 2000 dollars is a little much for a bicycle, but this is just amazing. I have a thing for vintage bicycles, they are so elegant and they make riding a bike casual and graceful. So if you're looking for the perfect bicycle, check it out: http://www.velorbis.com/classic-vintage-bicycle/classic-retro-ladies-bicycle/victoria-classic-ladies-vintage-bicycle

Before We Went Gaga

A few years ago there was a song free on Itunes that got us all dancing. I doubt many of you remember Kerli's hit Walking on Air but I sure do. While many people stuck with this hit, I began to really like her stuff. It's a strange mix of metal, pop, and outright weird. For instance, her song Strange Boy is the song I want to use for my first fashion show. Butterfly Cry is the ideal breakup song, and Creationist always make me get up and jam out. Well, today I saw the new Alice in Wonderland for the first time (OMFG I love the costumes!!!) and I recognized her voice on one of the songs. Sure enough, she sung Tea Party for the movie soundtrack Almost Alice. I started watching her music videos and realized that Kerli was the Lady Gaga of 2008. She was decked out in over the top costumes and extreme makeup months before anyone had ever imagined a Poker Face or sang to the steering wheel about Paparazzi. So next time you're in the mood for something to dance to, or a slightly creepy music video to watch, check out Tea Party http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY58uPtAM68.

#7 on Vogues...wait this is on the BEST dressed list?!?

I am obsessed with the Vogue best dressed list. I check three or four times a week for a new list, it's an addiction I swear. Anyway, I usually think that the editor, Alexandra Kotur, is always spot on but this week I think she missed the spot on number seven. Joan Smalls wore a white floor length number to the closing of Marina Abramovic's "The Artist is Present". At first I thought this gown was absolutely stunning, the material was obviously expensive and handled with the utmost care. The way the skirt flares is graceful without being obnoxious and the neckline sexy yet demure. Then, on close inspection, I realized that the tailer simply forgot to line the dress and this fabulous gown was ruined in my eyes. For years women have gone to all lengths to hide their undergarments from the world, but this dress says "Look at me, I'm shear and you can see Ms. Smalls underwear." What on Earth was Givenchy thinking? It is one thing for a model to walk down a runway in a purposely see through dress, but it is a holey other thing to go to an event with your boy cut underwear visible for the whole world. Honey, I know you're proud of your body, but I just didn't want to know you that well!
Do you think this dress deserves the #7 spot of the best dressed list or does Ms. Smalls need to head to Neiman Marcus and buy a slip?

The Button Down Blues

Boyfriend Blues

Here is my fashion tip of the day, go into your boyfriend/brother/father/best-guy-friends closet right now and grab a simple cotton-blend button down. You won't regret it. I use an over-sized mens button down (I snatched it from my dad last summer) to make a dress more casual, pair with leggings and layered tank tops, or add another layer on a cold day. It doesn't matter where you get it, just get it. you will not regret it.

Someone Pinch Me

"Urban Outfitters Stopped Selling Its ‘Eat Less’ Shirt Online

As a huge apparel company in this country, selling shirts that say "Eat Less" is probably not a good idea. After backlash in the blogosphere over Urban's "Eat Less" shirt, it has been pulled from the company's online store. However, you can still find it in physical stores. And if you want a shirt that says "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" — which was Kate Moss's motto until people got upset she said so in WWD and had to take it back — some people aren't afraid to sell that, anyway. [HuffPo]"

I just pulled this article out of New York Magazine and I thought I would share it with anyone who isn't a faithful reader of The Cut (if you aren't, you should be). Anyway, this shirt is hilarious! What were they thinking! With all the controversy going on about models being too skinny and still be fired for being of a size zero (GASP! What were they thinking, eating two raisins for breakfast? That's insane, they need to watch those portions!). I look at this picture and think "wow, that girl likes hungry." I think the message should be "Eat Right" not "Eat Less". So many girls starve themselves think that that is the way to be skinny, but the important thing is being healthy. It's better to eat a balanced meal of healthy food than only eating a cookie or a bag of chips for lunch. Small portions of junk food is worse for you than a moderate portion of healthy food. All I have to say to the models at Urban is "eat something, anything, just eat it!" Obesity sucks, but so does putting your finger down your throat after every meal!

Bonjour! Alo! Hei! Ciao! Dia Duit!

Hello,

My name is Megan.  I love shoes, shopping, mascara, sewing, lip gloss, designing, Prismacolor colored pencils, miniature pigs, romance novels, and all things fashion. What else should you know?....?....? Um, I'm allergic to mosquitoes and shellfish and I live on coffee. I'd drink coffee nonstop all day if I could, but school coffee sucks. That's the other thing, I'm fifteen (sixteen next month!) Let's see...I'm freakishly pale--practically albino-- and I have brown hair with gold and red in it. My eyes change color, they used to be blue all the time, but now they turn teal, grey, and green. I only have nine toes, I know that sounds weird but it really isn't. Theoretically I have ten but two of them are stuck together. It's unfortunate because I can't wear toe socks when it's cold outside.
Anyway, I'm a sophomore in high school. I go to a really yuppie school, but I love it. It's not a private school, but it thinks that it is. I get to take cool classes though. What normal high school has classes like Crafts and Design and Fashion Merchandising? There is a huge commons and a new library on the school, but I don't get to spend much time there. I did freshman year, but this year I have an overloaded schedule (no lunch, no study hall). See, I'm graduating next year. I'm kind of an overachiever only I'm not. I'm not obsessive about grades or anything, I just have this thing about time. I think I'm a chronophobic, that means fear of passing time. I feel like I have more to do than sit in a high school classroom for four years. So anyway, I'm graduating at the end of my junior year. It's scary, but it's right for me. I should speak in the past tense, since tomorrow is my last day of school. I have a geometry final...I hate math.
I want to be a fashion designer. It's not a phase or something. I've always dreamed of going to fashion school, but I can't afford it. I think that that's the way life works, it's not always the people with the most ambition that get the scholarships and the full ride through college. I'm not picky about which design school I go to, I'm all about Parsons, RISD, Art Institute of Chicago, FIDM, Illinois Institute of Art, or FIT. Basically, I'll go to whoever offers me the biggest scholarship. That sounds conceded, but I've worked so hard to get into one of these schools, I just have to. I can't see myself working in a cubical for the rest of my life, I can't even see myself at a normal college. Art school is where I belong I can just feel it.
Alright, so I'm not so sure about this whole blog thing, it's like writing a diary and publishing it on the internet. I think I'll stick with it, but this is not for me to complain about not having money and not being able to get a job, this is a place for me to talk about what I love--fashion. So here you have it, this is my space. This is a place for me to talk about fashion news, fashion design, and share with the world what I have to offer. If anyone is reading this, thanks for listening.

XOXO
Megzi
