The world of fashion is one that I never wish to visit. I wish to live there instead. An outsider’s view is tainted by flashbulbs and glitter. On the inside you can see the industry without its makeup on…

Project Ruway + Austin Scarlett = The Best Night Ever

Hey everybody!

So if you didn't catch Project Runway last night, that's your loss.
I absolutely loved it. The dress that won was simply beautiful (I totally want to remake a version of it). I didn't think that the one that lost was as bad as say, I don't know, CASANOVA'S. His was DREADFUL. Seriously, I actually gagged when I saw if. It was like a Brazilian, belly dancing, hooker. Really? There was no fabric on it!?!?!?! I did like Peach's dress, but I didn't think we saw enough of the garment she was given. I am glad she was safe though.
Then, on top of the most amazing episode of Project Runway (seriously a five hour challenge!!!), we get to see Santino and Austin dress up a cowgirl!
My literally SCREAMED when I saw the ad.
Austin Scarlett is my favorite designer in Project Runway history and Santino, who I hated as a person, is tres talented so they're like a dream team. I'm not sure how long this show will last, but man it was entertaining.

FIERCE!

Hey Trannies!

Christian Siriano...I love you.
Seriously, if Christian wasn't completely gay I would run away with him. Have you read his book? It's sooooo funny and so true. I adore his use of words like "gorg" "ferosh" and "expired" and his expressions like "hot tranny mess" "tickity tack" and "Fericua Coutura". His book, Fierce Style, is basically a self-help novel on trendy, fabulous, and for women that actually care about what they look like. The tagline is "How to be your most fabulous self" and that's exactly what it teaches you. The first section is all about your look, the second is about your attitude, the third is about taking chances and being confident, and the final is all about inspiration. There is even a glossary in the back of the book which defines all of his fierce terms. This is a total must read. Next time you want to feel fabulous, run down to Borders or Barnes & Nobel to buy his book. It's witty, amusing, and it leaves you feeling like no one in the world can bring you down.

We're All Mad Here

So last weekend I held a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. It was such a blast to see all my friends dressed up and eat great food and drink fancy tea. A tip for your next tea party: you can never have enough cucumber sandwiches! Anyway, i wont post pictures of everyone in their fabulous dresses, because they would kill me if I did, but I did want to share pics of the gorgeous tables I set up. Fresh flowers, mismatched tea cups, and a deck of playing cards can go a long way. And remember, over decorating is not necessary if you have friends as great as mine (they provide all the color you need!)

Feather Earrings

Aria\'s feather earring

This season, try spicing up your outfits with a hot feather earring. I love the Blake's little feathers because they're subtle, but something about the one feather look that Lucy (Aria from PLL) is rocking is calling my name. My advice: a subtle feather accessory can be for day or night, sophisticated or punk. Go with small feathers if you want to add a fun detail to a classy look, and go big and bold if you want to stand out. I prefer natural colors (no hot pink feathers, please!) and if you want something more detailed go for something like the beaded feather earring Vanessa is styling.

As with anything, find a way to take this seasons trends and spin them into your own look. Be bold, but remember that turning heads is not always a good thing. With embellishments like feathers, sequins, and other such trims and finishes, it's all things in moderation. You wouldn't wear a black sequined cocktail dress with black sequined flats and a black sequined clutch, would you? If you go with feather earrings, you don't have to wear a feather necklace and bag that has a broach with a feather on it. Subtlety can be just as shocking as being over the top.

Sister Suffragette, put some clothes on

I am not, by any means, a prude. I am not a slut either. I like to think that I've found a happy middle. My personal style includes knee length or just above the knee skirts and dresses, sweaters, jackets, embellished tanks, and the occasional pair of jeans. I do not wear mini skirts without opaque tights, I don't wear shear white tops with black bras, and I don't think that short-shorts and a bustier is appropriate to wear in public. So why is it that so many celebrities and teenagers can't wear enough clothing to cover there butts and breasts? Women have fought for freedom and equality for longer than people would care to remember. Women wanted to be seen as more than property, they wanted real jobs and they wanted to have freedom. Our ancestors worked so hard so that women could go to school past they age of ten, or even at all, and now women are willingly objectifying themselves. Why do performers like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Momsen, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce feel like they  need to dance around half naked humping a microphone stand. It's gross! There are young girls watching these women and aspiring to be like them, but is that what we want the girls of this world to dress and act like. I hate that in this world women feel that they have to walk around one step up from naked to feel sexy and beautiful. There is a fine line between "if you've got it flaunt it" and walking around with garters, an over-sized shirt, and no pants. So why is it that we respect these young women? We don't respect prostitutes and strippers, but they wear the same outfits and have the same dance moves. Why is it that we respect one and not the other; I think they're both pretty disgusting. So boys, next time your girlfriend or daughter or sister wears something that makes her look beautiful without looking like a tramp, tell her that. And ladies, listen to your grandmother! He won't buy the cow if he's getting the milk for free. Remember that the next time you ask yourself why you're still not married and putting on that black mini dress you spent a fortune on and covers nothing.

Just a thought,

That Word...

Affordable

In the world of fashion the word "affordable" is often considered a dirty word. After all, why would you buy a cotton sweater for twenty dollars at Old Navy that will last one season, when you could have a hundred dollar cashmere or merino sweater from Nieman's that will last forever but you'll probably only wear for one season? I would love to live in a world where I could buy hundred dollar sweaters and not blink an eye, but I don't. So I must improvise with a guide to affordable basics and staples that will look great without breaking the bank.

Step One: The Perfect Jeans for the Perfect Price

I love Delia's for jeans and tank tops. You can get a pair of jeans for forty bucks and they'll last for two or three years. Be warned, they do shrink, but they have quite a few lengths for inseems and if you just buy one length too long, they'll be fine. This season, I am in love with the dark rinse, low rise, Reese, bootcut jeans. The dark rise and the cut of the legs make your legs look longer and slimmer. Flare and skinny jeans often make your thighs look bigger (unless your blessed with perfect legs). Shown Left

I usually don't like skinny jeans, but Alloy is the place to get a pair if you like them. For thirty dollars you can buy a pair of Paris Blues in a dark rinse (light wash skinny jeans should be illegal). A word of advice, tall girls look better in skinny jeans, they make long legs look longer and short legs look stubbier. Shown Right

Step Two: Perfect Sweaters for all Occasions

In Chicago, you learn to respect the perfect sweater. They are the perfect winter staple for anyone that lives in the north or vacations for a ski resort or winter wonderland. I love The GAP for sweaters because they're cheap and cozy. This winter, everything is "boyfriend" style. Boyfriend jeans, boyfriend jackets, boyfriend t's, and my new fave--the boyfriend sweater. Thirty dollars, cotton/nylon/silk, variety of colors, slouchy and chic...PERFECT! Shown Right

I LOVE CARDIGANS!!! The cardigan is the perfect thing for winter, spring, and fall. They come in a ton of colors and styles. Printed or solid. Two tone or double colored.  I am in love with the Delias varsity cardigans. It's fifty dollars, which is kind of spendy on a cardigan, but Delias does a ton of sales so you can get it for cheaper. Cardigans are great because you can wear them with jeans, skirts, or dresses. A cardigan can be casual or formal, they're great. I think that nothing is cuter than a plain cardigan, with perfect jeans, and a cute camisole. Shown Left

Step Three: Versatile Dresses

The Little Black Dress...Everyone has one. It's almost a coming of age thing. When I started high school my mom bought me two little black dresses and I found a way to wear them all the time. Whether it was for the homecoming dance, my a Capella singing group, or a dress for school that I dressed down with colored tights and suede boots, the little black dress always served me well. Lately is seems like every store and designer is trying to make their own version of the little black dress. Fitted, loose, lacy, pleated, ruffled, sequined, bedazzled, jersey, silk, wool, cotton, chiffon...there are sooooo many options. The little black dress can be sexy or sassy, casual or formal, even modest and sophisticated. For the perfect sexy, one shoulder number, check out Forever 21 for a 20 dollar bandage dress. Shown Left. If you want a more casual look, check out this eyelet dress from Delias for fifty dollars. Shown Right

Florals are very in this season. Last years hard rocker look is softened this year by adding florals. Instead of the shredded jeans, sequined top, and black leather jacket of last years trends, this year take that same leather jacket and add it to a floral dress. I love this chiffon dress from Forever 21. It's 27 dollars and a great investment. Try it with a cardigan or jacket and you'll have a fall look. Add some tights and heels and it's a great winter look for any occasion. Shown Below

Step Four: Basic Tops & Tanks

Alloy has this great deal where you can buy any of about twenty tops and tanks for a great prince: two for thirteen dollars each or three for ten dollars each. There are a ton of colors and styles and are a total must buy.

Step Five: Not Your Mama's Blazer

I love blazers! When I was in middle school all the other girls were wearing juicy sweatshirts with their Abercrombie jeans and tank tops, while I was styling a black blazer with mine (partially because I couldn't afford Juicy and my dad didn't want his sixth grade daughter walking around with "Juicy" written on her butt). Right now, I'm digging the classic cut and the boyfriend style blazer. Navy, black, brown, and tan are the best for blazers, but I love trying new things like corduroy, suede, cotton, or denim. I'm not quite sure how I feel about velvet blazers (though, I have seen some people pull them off). GAP has some great blazers for about a hundred dollars in lightweight wool. Shown Left. I love the black, tied front, Forever 21 blazer, and it's only 32 dollars (BARGAIN!). Shown Below. Or for sixty bucks, try Delia's for a grey tweed blazer. Shown Right

Hope this helps with your fall wardrobe

Super Skinny...honey, they're just jeans

The Gap is not exactly high end and no one could ever consider is couture, however it has become a part of American culture. After all, what kid doesn't own some t-shirts and tank tops for the Gap? Who hasn't snagged a sun dress at a low price from one of their many brightly colored racks of basic cotton clothing? How many American's can truly say they don't own a Gap sweater or a pair of Gap jeans? I mean really, what parent wouldn't see a pair of twenty dollar jeans as a bargain for their nine year old? The latest craze in denim is the skinny jean, a style that I personally can't condone on most people since it does nothing for you're legs if you're over a size four. Unless you have freakishly skinny legs, the skinny jean does the opposite of make you're legs look skinny. That's why, the children's skinny jean should have the world of kids clothes falling to their knees. How many times have adults stolen kids styles to adapt them for themselves (the romper, the baby doll dress, legging as pants)? As just like the leggings as pants craze, this one just looks better on kids! Generally, little girls have skinny legs, so why not teach your daughter to love the way she looks by giving her a pair of skinny jeans. Some have said that giving a little girl jeans that say "super skinny" will give them body issues and make them feel like they need to be thinner, but I think that if a girl feels good in her jeans then that gives her more confidence. The ad campaign is totally genius too. The little girls in the ads have personality. It tells you their names and ages so you feel as if the model is just like your kid, and both little girls are taking part in creative activities (painting and photography). I totally applaud the Gap for this. After all, all little girls want to feel more grown up and a pair of skinny jeans is still conservative and cute. It's not a cropped halter top (which NO ONE should wear, let alone a little kid) or a miniskirt (I totally think should be illegal for girls under the age of fifteen to wear) so what's the harm?
born to fit, made to last. introducing america,s best fitting premium jeans for kids, from %19.50. shop jeans. the original fit, kaleigh, 9, the straight fit, milana, 9. gapkids 1969 premium jeans.
