The world of fashion is one that I never wish to visit. I wish to live there instead. An outsider’s view is tainted by flashbulbs and glitter. On the inside you can see the industry without its makeup on…

Merry Christmas Darlings!

Hey girlies,

It's Christmas Eve! I love the Christmas season for so many reasons. I mean really, mandatory gift giving, guilt free shopping, super sales every day, fabulous gifts, rich food, sparkly clothes, and great/cheesy movies and music. I have been watching ABC Family and Lifetime Movie Network for the last week (between shopping trips and wrapping presents, of course). The holiday season is the best time for clothing too. I mean, how often can you look adorably festive in a sequined tank, wool blazer, dark wash jeans, and five inch heels? What other time of year is a sequined mini dress and wool tights acceptable? This is a beautiful season, and not just because of the snow!

Hugs, Kisses, and Happy Holidays!

Sew I guess this means I have a lot to do....

I went down to Vogue Fabrics in Evanston last weekend and bought some great textiles. I found a great black and purple suiting, an adorable silky red and black print, and some interesting crotched-esk rose cotton. I'm looking forward to a Thanksgiving break of sewing, Taylor Swift songs, pumpkin pie, and Project Runway reruns....oh, and more sewing. Wish me luck, I got a dress, a skirt, and a sweater to whip up in four days....I can totally do it! I'll post pics soon :-)

Brava Annalynne McCord

Some may criticize this divas attire for the People Choice Award, but I think Annalynne McCord brought a whole new spin on menswear chic to the red carpet yesterday. Her interpretation, simple and obvious. I'm digging the denim skinny pant and the boxy white shirt. The tie adds a formal touch, and the red glitter heels take the look from masculine to daring and sexy. I think this look is spot on. Who says only guys can wear a shirt and tie on the red carpet? Isn't it time for ladies to set outside this idea that a skirt or dress is their only formal option?

Simply fabulous

Be The Star

There's nothing like staying out till four in the morning to give you a little fashion perspective. Last night I went down to the Riviera Theater to see The Script (Irish bands do it better!). It was an amazing show and I would highly recommend them to anyone. They have a unique sound and the lead singer is amazingly gorgeous (he's Irish, of course he's hot). Anyway, concerts are always great for style watching and this place had no shortage on....interest choices. It's clear at concerts whose from the burbs and whose from the city. The suburban princesses are usually A) wearing too much makeup B) Dressed up in ridiculous outfits C) Wearing completely impracticable shoes. The city girls are usually in jeans, comfy shoes, and a t-shirt. So wears the happy middle? Why do we either have to look like hookers or slobs? Can't we just be adorable and comfortable all at one? That's where I come in.....

Quotes to Live By

Dear Divas,

There's something about fall that leaves me inspired. There are amazing colors everywhere, wonderful people always hanging around, and it's the season where coffee just tastes better. If you're one of those people who just aren't feeling fall let me give you some inspiration. These are some of my favorite quotes about fashion, love, life, and the world in general. All of these people made their difference on the world, and now it's our time to make ours.....

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Robert Frost.
“In less enlightened times, the best way to impress women was to own a hot car. But women wised up and realized it was better to buy their own hot cars so they wouldn't have to ride around with jerks.” Scott Adams.
“I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school. They don't teach you how to love somebody. They don't teach you how to be famous. They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer. They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing.” Neil Gaiman
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Coco Chanel
"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." Rumi
"If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don't, they never were." Kahlil Gibran
"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love". Neil Gaiman
"Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation." Kahlil Gibran

“The love that lasts longest is the love that is never returned." Somerset Maugham
"Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it... It really is worth fighting for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more." Erica Jong
“Inspiration is wonderful when it happens, but the writer must develop an approach for the rest of the time... The wait is simply too long.” Leonard Bernstein
“In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.” Douglas Adams.
“How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but to be someone.” Coco Chanel

“Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.” Coco Chanel

And a pretty dress just for kicks...

Ugg! Just get rid of them!

SERIOUSLY!

Please for the love of god just stop! UGGs are over!!!!!! It's time to face the music and buy some real shoes. We've all fallen pray to the idea of these boots, but we're not thirteen anymore. The idea of these super cozy boots may seem good, but slippers are not meant to be warn outside and those ugly tan boots make anyone's feet look big. In my opinion, the biggest faux paux a girl can make is wearing UGGs and short shorts (I see it all the time and cringe). For christ's sake, you're wearing shorts, why do you need snow boots? Then, to add insult to injury, people actually pay up to $250 for these monstrosities. Do the world a favor and spend that money on a pair of shoes that are actually cute and can be worn in public without people thinking your a mindless trend head without the sense you mother gave you.

Just say no dearies,

DIY Mani-Pedi

Sick of paying 60 bucks for a mani/pedi at your local spa? Did you know that if you were to get a mani/pedi twice a month at $60 you would spend $1,440 each year on your nails? That's a pair of Valentino pumps! Save some cash and switch to a home manicure. If you're not great with the nail polish wand then have a mani/pedi party with your favorite gals. Remember, practice makes perfect and that is totally true when it comes to painting your nails.
So here's what you do....

1. Clean those fingers! Get all the old polish off and file your nails. Never cut! Cutting your nails is bad, always file them down.
2. Base coat! The base coat will strengthen your nails and help the polish last longer. Make sure the base is COMPLETELY dry before you add your...
3. First coat! Don't drown your nails in color, apply a light first coat and wait for it to dry. Your nails will look more professional if you do multiple light coats. Don't expect to get the bottle color in the first (or even second) coat.
4. Add two-three more coats! Make sure that you're nails are 100000000% dry before starting the next coat.
5. Top coat! This is the final coat. It will protect your polish and give your nails a glossy look.

Fave Brands:

1. OPI (best brand ever! I only paint my fingers with OPI)
2. Maybelline Express Finish (Dries super fast, great for last minute nail color)
3. CoverGirl Boundless Color (Great for pedicures)
4. Sinful Colors (Soooo cheap and in the wildest colors)

Anywhere, Anytime

Today I want to talk to you about the most important word for fashionistas on a budget (such as I): Versatile!
We all do it, we walk into Barnies or Nordstroms knowing that we can't afford that fabulous little pencil skirt in the window and no matter how many arguments we make with ourselves we can't justify $600 dollars for a wool skirt no matter how adorable it is. So here's an idea: high end chain stores. J. Crew and Anthropolgie are both tres adorable and you can get great pieces for reasonable prices that you can accessories for work or play. Here are a few outfit ideas to get you through a long winter or shopping temptations....

J. Crew:

Work-
Felted Wool Mini (be bold, try the mustard yellow!), Silk Two-Way Tee, Super 120s Pinstripe Dietrich Jacket, Solid Opaque Tights, Dida Platform Pump.

Play-
Ditch the jacket and tights, add the Silk Ribbon Multi-chain Necklace, and the Deco Bow Headband and you're set for a night out with the girls.

Super 120s pinstripe Dietrich jacket

Anthropologie:

Work-
Lucerna Dress (red is hot this season), Clinton Trench, Gold Revealed Flats, Warm Blooming Beret

Play- Lose the beret, replace the flats with High Top Heels, and add the Sophisticate's Corsage Bracelet. You'll be sure to get the attention of every cutie in the place.

Bloomingdales:

Work: Rachel Roy Signature Stretch Velveteen Skinny Pants, Sue Wong Silk Strapless Embellished Top, Aqua Cashmere Open Cardigan, Salvatore Ferragamo "Carla" Pump with Logo Bow, Tori Birch Logo Clutch.

Play: Set those shoulders free and abandon the sweater, exchange those adorable Ferragamo's for some Steve Madden "Caryssa" Glitter Platform Pumps, and top it off with a pair of Alexis Bittar Crystal Encrusted Single Link Earrings.

Good Luck,

Newsflash!

Hey Trendy Divas,

Before you head off on those fab fall/winter vacations remember that wardrobe is still important when you're out of town. I don't buy into the notion that to go on vacation you have to dress like a "tourist". You can tour Rome without wearing an "I Love Italia" t-shirt and cargo shorts. Darlings, it is just as important to look gorgeous on vacation as it is at home, even more so actually.
So, if you're headed to...

The Beach:

Vintage style bikinis are totally hot this season. Luxury cruise-wear is big this year and I vote that we all embrace this. Remember, it's always 80 degrees somewhere! Before you head out on a cruise of the Mediterranean grab that hot little red two piece you snatched at an end of the summer sale. The 50's are making a comeback in a big way, especially for swimsuits and dresses.

Splurge: Kushcush "Diana Swimsuit"
Steal: Modcloth "Beach Blanket Bingo Two Piece"

The Slopes:

Slouchy sweaters are a must have for every diva this winter. Whether you're sitting around the fireplace in your favorite Swiss ski lodge, or cuddling on the couch with your hunky boyfriend, a cozy sweater is the perfect addition to almost any outfit. Baggy=Evil! Slouchy=chic! Yes dearies, there is a difference. You don't want to look like you're drowning in merino, more like you're comfortable and cuddly in cashmere.

Splurge: J. Crew "Merino de Longueur Cardigan"
Steal:  Gap "Knit Cocoon Cardigan"

The Sights

Europe is calling ladies! Doesn't the south of France call to you that first morning of fall when you need a jacket and wool tights? If you're spending your Turkey Day gazing at the Fontana di Trevi or marveling the Mona Lisa at the Lourve you'll totally need the perfect fall dress to catch the eyes of those European hotties. Pair it with an adorable wool coat in a bright color and you'll be ready for anything.

Splurge: Butter by Nadia "Signature Wrap Dress" and Eli Tahari "Drew Ruffle Coat"
Steal: Love21 "Classy Lace Trim Dress" and Tommy Hilfiger "Long Sleeve Empire Waist Coat"

Have fun darlings,
xoxo MEGZI
